Irresponsible drivers targeted

Last week Police Scotland held a week-long campaign to tackle speeding, inappropriate driving and other anti-social driving offences, in the Mastrick area of Aberdeen.

As part of that campaign, community policing officers in Mastrick dealt with 20 people for driving offences committed between 24th and 26th April.

Of those, fourteen will be reported to the procurator fiscal. Twelve of these were caught speeding and two were caught driving without a valid driving licence.

The remaining six motorists received fixed penalty notices for either driving and using a mobile phone simultaneously or for failing to wear seatbelts.

“The operation demonstrates Police Scotland's determination to make Scotland's roads safer for all who use them.” said Sergeant Ian Doherty, who was in charge of the operation. “The Mastrick community have told us that they are concerned about road safety and this remains one of the top local priorities."

Police Scotland advise that they intend to carry out similar initiatives elsewhere in Scotland.
