Parents break the speed limit on the school run

New research has revealed that one in four parents admit that they have broken the speed limit to get their children to school. A third of dads (31%) who regularly drive their kids to school said they don’t stick to the legal limits, compared to just a fifth (19%) of mums.

The research, by Post Office Car Insurance, also found that in the dash to get out of the house, 15% of parents surveyed who regularly take their children to school said they drive through amber lights to get them to class on time. Around 13% said they have parked illegally during the school drop off and 8% admitted to having forgotten to buckle up themselves or their children in the car.

On average, during term time kids spend 20 minutes a day in a car during the peak hours for accidents on the roads. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents the time periods associated with the school run (8am to 9am, and 4pm to 6pm) see a significant increase in reported casualties on the roads.
