Recent research carried out on behalf of Halifax Car Insurance has found that a fifth of those surveyed admitted to driving without a valid MOT.
Around 10% said that this was because they couldn’t afford the cost of the MOT, however these drivers are risking a substantial fine if they are caught driving without one by police.
Around half of those questioned thought they could get away with driving without an MOT, and around 75% claimed to be unaware that their MOT had run out.
Jeremy Ward, head of Halifax Car Insurance, commented: “Driving without valid insurance is not only against the law, but can also impact financially on those who have appropriate cover as they may be unable to recover damages from an uninsured driver.”
